Publication Ethics
(These guidelines are based on Elsevier policies and COPE Core Practice)
Ethical guidelines for journal publication
TEPIAN is published by the Department of Software Engineering, Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Samarinda, with support from the Association of Higher Education in Informatics and Computer Science (APTIKOM) of East Kalimantan. TEPIAN is a scientific journal that publishes manuscripts in the fields of information systems, hardware technology, intelligent systems, multimedia applications, smart farming, and educational technology.
As a peer-reviewed journal, TEPIAN aims to develop a credible and respected scientific network. Therefore, all parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher—must adhere to established ethical standards to ensure that each publication upholds principles of honesty, transparency, and accountability in scientific knowledge development.
As the publisher, TEPIAN is responsible for every stage of the publishing process, from manuscript submission and peer review to final publication. We are committed to maintaining scientific integrity and ensuring that editorial decisions are made objectively, without influence from commercial interests such as advertisements, reprints, or other revenue sources. Additionally, the editorial board of TEPIAN will fully support communication with other journals or publishers when necessary to uphold publication ethics standards and ensure the credibility of the published research.
Publication and authorship
- All submitted papers are subject to strict peer-review process by at least two reviewers that are experts in the area of the particular paper.
- Review process are single-blind peer review.
- The factors that are taken into account in review are relevance, soundness, significance, originality, readability and language.
- The possible decisions include acceptance, acceptance with revisions, or rejection.
- If authors are encouraged to revise and resubmit a submission, there is no guarantee that the revised submission will be accepted.
- Rejected articles will not be re-reviewed.
- The paper acceptance is constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism.

- Authors must certify that their manuscripts are their original work.
- Authors must certify that the manuscript has not previously been published elsewhere.
- Authors must certify that the manuscript is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere.
- Authors must participate in the peer review process.
- Authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes.
- All Authors mentioned in the paper must have significantly contributed to the research.
- Authors must state that all data in the paper are real and authentic.
- Authors must notify the Editors of any conflicts of interest.
- Authors must identify all sources used in the creation of their manuscript.

- Reviewers should keep all information regarding papers confidential and treat them as privileged information.
- Reviews should be conducted objectively, with no personal criticism of the author
- Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments
- Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
- Reviewers should also call to the Editor in Chief’s attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.
- Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers. (more detail)
- Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article.
- Editors are responsible for the contents and overall quality of the publication.
- Editors should always consider the needs of the authors and the readers when attempting to improve the publication.
- Editors should guarantee the quality of the papers and the integrity of the academic record.
- Editors should publish errata pages or make corrections when needed.
- Editors should have a clear picture of a research’s funding sources.
- Editors should base their decisions solely one the papers’ importance, originality, clarity and relevance to publication’s scope.
- Editors should not reverse their decisions nor overturn the ones of previous editors without serious reason.
- Editors should preserve the anonymity of reviewers.
- Editors should ensure that all research material they publish conforms to internationally accepted ethical guidelines.
- Editors should only accept a paper when reasonably certain.
- Editors should act if they suspect misconduct, whether a paper is published or unpublished, and make all reasonable attempts to persist in obtaining a resolution to the problem.
- Editors should not reject papers based on suspicions, they should have proof of misconduct.
- Editors should not allow any conflicts of interest between staff, authors, reviewers and board members. (More detail)
Plagiarism Policy
The TEPIAN Editorial board recognizes that plagiarism is not acceptable and therefore establishes the following policy stating specific actions (penalties) when plagiarism is identified in an article that is submitted for publication in TEPIAN .
All the manuscripts will be subjected to pre-screening of plagiarism check by using Turnitin Software. The screening process will be conducted by Editor once the manuscript is received (More detail).

Conflict of Interest Policy
To ensure transparency and eliminate any potential bias, TEPIAN requires authors to declare any financial and/or non-financial competing interests related to their submitted work. The corresponding author is responsible for submitting a statement on behalf of all co-authors. Competing interests may include any financial or non-financial interests that could interfere with, or be perceived to undermine, the objectivity, integrity, and value of a publication. Process for Identifying and Addressing Research Misconduct
TEPIAN is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity. Authors must ensure that their submissions represent original research and accurately reflect the work conducted. If substantial evidence of research misconduct is identified in a submitted or published manuscript, the journal will take appropriate action to address and prevent such misconduct. (More detail)
Retraction, Withdrawal, & Correction Policy
Policy Statement
TEPIAN recognizes the effort authors put into preparing manuscripts and the rigorous peer-review process conducted. However, under certain exceptional circumstances, published articles may need to be corrected, retracted, or removed to uphold scientific integrity. Such actions will only be taken when absolutely necessary and will follow strict standards to maintain the credibility of our academic records. Content Integrity and Maintenance
TEPIAN is dedicated to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of its published content. Data Sharing and Reproducibility Policy
TEPIAN is committed to supporting transparency and research integrity, following the principles outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authors are encouraged to share research data, particularly datasets that support their findings. Ethical Oversight Policy
This journal follows ethical oversight based on mutual trust and adherence to ethical principles, including consent for publication, research involving humans and animals, and confidentiality of data. In line with COPE guidelines, the editorial team ensures compliance with these ethical standards. Appeals regarding ethical violations can be submitted to the Ethics and Oversight Committee, provided they are substantiated and non-anonymous. Intellectual Property Policy
TEPIAN’s Intellectual Property Policy ensures that upon publication, copyright is transferred to TEPIAN, while authors retain moral rights. Articles must be original, properly cited, and follow ethical standards. The journal operates under a CC BY license, allowing redistribution, adaptation, and commercial use with proper attribution. Plagiarism and unauthorized use of third-party materials require proper permissions. Post-Publication Discussion and Correction Policy
TEPIAN is committed to transparency and scientific accuracy by implementing a Post-Publication Discussion and Correction Policy, addressing both minor and major corrections. Minor corrections involve updates that don't affect scientific content, accompanied by endnotes and a correction notice. Major corrections, impacting the interpretation of findings, result in updated articles republished on TEPIAN's website with a correction notice.
