Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap merupakan pembangkit listrik yang mengandalkan energi kinetik dari uap untuk menghasilkan energi listrik. Bentuk utama dari pembangkit listrik jenis ini adalah generator yang dihubungkan ke turbin yang digerakkan oleh tenaga kinetik dari uap panas. Bahan baku utama salah satunya kebutuhan air yang diproses menjadi air demineral pada Boiler. Pada pembangkit listrik tenaga uap, air sebagai produk utama telah melalui beberapa proses untuk menjaga kehandalan peralatan pembangkit. Air pengolahan tersebut yang digunakan untuk menghasilkan steam. Pada pembangkit listrik dilengkapi dengan Water Treatment Plant yang terdiri dari dua unit utama yaitu Unit Purifier dan Demin Plant. Salah satu upaya untuk menjaga kemurnian air adalah dengan pembangunan Unit Sand Filter dengan Type Saringan Pasir Lambat Up Flow pada area Purifier Tank.
